Our town is well over 100 years old and was built by the hearty pioneers taming the West. They were mostly loggers of the endless and abundant forests moving here in large numbers in the early 1800's and building towns along the way.

Today our downtown is home to approximately 300 businesses, services and retail stores, a Children's Museum, the historic Lincoln Theatre and the Skagit Valley Food Co-op which supports our local and organic farmers.  We host the famous Tulip Festival Street Fair each April, Scarecrow contest in October and an Olde Fashioned Christmas Parade and Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony the first week in December. In between time, our restaurants have a monthly wine walk, occasional Taste of Downtown event and Brewfest each August.  There is open mike night regularly and local art rotations along with our summer Sidewalk Sale.
